I latered learned about raised beds and how to grow vegetables and fruits in introduced, invasive slug territory. While not something that I have personally attempted, I have seen that raised beds do work.

I actually know someone with "pet slugs" similar to my "pet squirrels" (Douglas squirrels) which I have granted free reign to do whatever they want (including ripping out the insulation in my tool shed because it was apparently bored during the winter). This person does steward those yellow slugs which I previously mentioned. I'll try to get and post some photos of the yellow slugs.
