My boyfriend just accepted a job working at the shipyard in Bremerton--looks like we'll be moving up there in the middle of august. Anyhow, I've tried to get what info I can about the area and it's been pretty limited so ANY info on the area would be useful. I know that my bf was looking at some condos (the 400 or something) relativly close to the shipyard thinking it'd be nice to be able to walk to work--I'm a bit skeptical about it. Are there any nice areas within walking distance of the shipyards? And as a random question for myself, are there any stables or such around Bremerton or within a reasonable drive? Thanks

Hi, SBlue. The Kitsap Sun should give you a start:
kitsapsun.com : Kitsap, Washington, News, Business, Homes, Jobs, Cars & Information
You might also want to try Craigslist.

For-sale info seems to be almost completely covered in this area by MLSonline -- the link is:
Seattle Real Estate, Top Seattle Real Estate Search, TheMLSonline.com

There are also: realtor.com, condocompare.com, and homes.com (for King County which includes Seattle), and in a small way Craigslist. But none of those provides complete listings, which MLSonline seems to do.

Those resources should give you a start! Have fun researching! :-)

The 400 is a fairly new, less than year old building ,on the marina...very close to the Seattle Ferry terminal, nice new downtown area that is safe,Bremerton PD has a large presence in the area as the 400 has attracted many people from the other side of the Sound (Seattle)and I suspect they want to keep those people safe.Generally around the Shipyard is the LEAST desirable part of Bremerton as most of the crime in the city seems to originate in a 15 block radius around the shipyard....Also look at Manette area in East Bremerton still walking distance but a bike or skates might be more feasible...good luck

Haven't been there in a few years but there have always been a lot of horse owners in the Port Orchard area(and a lot of shipyard workers).

First, let me say congratulations on the new jobs. Next, I think you will love Bremerton. It is currently going through a revitalization in the downtown area (where the 400 is) and the homes in walking distance of PSNS can vary in style. With a surplus of homes for sale you stand a pretty good chance of getting an older home with a lot of character for a pretty good price. When they are finished with the downtown project it will be a great investment. A short bike ride is the community of Manette just across the Manette Bridge also. Again, older homes that have a lot of character.

Good luck with the hunt (and the move)! I have lived here since `68 and love it. Let me know if you need help finding a good realtor.

Hello,
You have some good advice from other's on this forum...
I worked a good # of years @ the Navy Yard , can tell you allot about the base itself... I retired from there.. The downtown is going through a renovation presently,I drove over to the coast last weekend and noticed part of downtown Bremerton roads are torn up during this period. The base has a newspaper that you can access from the internet, I found the link for you:
