Hi,
We're planning to move to Maple valley, WA. How is the commute from Maple valley to downtown Seattle?
Any carpools/van pools available?

TIA

There are carpools and Vanpool’s from just about anywhere in the region. I would consider that a horrible commute, but if you get into a vanpool at least you can relax and use the carpool lanes. Figure about 45 minutes in the middle of the night, double that during the commute time 6:30am-10:00 am. You will have commuter to Renton working at Boeing and Paccar, and some going to Bellevue or Redmond as well as Seattle. Being less expensive and having good schools and low crime makes Maple Valley a popular choice, but no jobs there so everyone commutes.

The commute? Great if you love to sit in traffic, hell on earth if you don't.

Some have posted here that they drive from Maple Valley to the Kent Station (free parking) and take Sounder Commuter Rail (~30 minutes) to Downtown Seattle.

I did this commute for over 4 years (2011-2015)...

While I loved living in Maple Valley and the kids did well in school, between the commute and the job, it got tiring.

I tried everything....from the 143 Bus to the Light Rail to finally the Sounder.

To me the Sounder worked the best.

I would leave the house at 6am, park the car in the parking garage at 6:25, catch the 6:35 train and get into Seattle around 7.

Then I would catch the 4:50 train and be home around 6ish.

Nevertheless, I hated the 12 hour days!

When the kids graduated and all went their own way, I was outta there! Now my commute is 15 minutes and the days are only 9 hours!
