WA state has never been, nor is it now, a very violent state. Take it from a person who grew up in a city that was once one of the top 10 murder cities in the nation. There is nowhere in Seattle where you will get carjacked or murdered simply driving/walking down the street not bothering anyone.

Visit chicago, San Antonio, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, St Louis, and its another story.

I am not saying WA may not be getting worst, but Ive noticed lots of Washingtonians seem to over exaggerate the danger of neighborhoods or cities. Usually Tacoma, Bremerton, South Seattle, Renton, Burien and Bothell.

While these cities are definitely on the lower income side, its nothing like one would see in one of the other places I mentioned. Unless you are in one of those spots doing something nefarious (looking for drugs), harassing people, or you are there and you arent exhibiting a sense of self awareness of your surroundings (which everyone should do, regardless of neighborhood), nothing is going to happen to you.

Dont cross into our state, youre just asking to get car jacked and gunpoint and shot on the spot. Its also very ugly here. No trees, terrible fishing. you would hate it here.

Shhh ... you will hurt Washington's relocation industry by scaring off prospective suckers, oops, residents.

Gosh, you should have told me earlier. I live 30 miles N of Seattle in a rural area and I don't even lock my door at night.

On the other hand the final straw that made me move here from Ontario CA was when a family hostage situatiion in the house across the street from the house behind me got out of control and before I knew it the swat team was running through my yard and I was hiding under my bed. In the morning a swat team member escorted me from my front door to my car so I could leave for work. While I was at work, the swat team had cast tear gas and compression bombs into the house
which set it on fire and both brothers who were in the house died in the fire.
That's when I said to myself.

I'M DONE

Only you can decide how much crime you can deal with and even then, in these times, there are no guarantees that anyone will be safe.

some kid dk was hit by a boat and the other boat driver is only getting 340 dollar fine near tacoma wa and this kid is bed ridden in a nursing home maybe for life

No Criminal Charges For Boat Driver Who Hit Kayaking Boy - KCPQ (http://www.q13fox.com/news/kcpq-061809-manwhohitkayak,0,239187.story - broken link)

The man police say was driving a boat that crashed into a teenager kayaking earlier this year will not face criminal charges.

The accident happened March 1 on American Lake in Pierce County.

Fourteen year old David Kenny Ross was left with disabling injuries from the accident. He has had numerous surgeries, and is in a nursing home for long-term care and treatment.

Thirty-four year old McKinley Randle was operating a 2005 Ranger boat when it hit Ross's kayak.

According to the News Tribune, Lakewood prosecutors could not find a criminal charge to bring against the driver. Pierce County prosecutors also declined to press charges.

Randle on Thursday called the collision "a horrible accident." "I never intended to hurt anybody," he said. "I pray every day that he'll be OK."

Randle was ticketed Thursday for negligent boating and fined $343.

Anyone who seriously believes Washington State is becoming "the most violent state" has clearly not lived too many places. A good 90% of the East Coast beats anyplace in WA for crime, any day at any time. Seriously.

How can anyone live here and seriously feel that this area is so overwhelmingly threatening? Baltimore, Philly, NYC, Atlanta, Birmingham, Raleigh/Durham, DC ... any of these places blow WA out of the water as far as crime is concerned.

I'd have to agree with Tindo80. I'm a retired police officer from Las Vegas and grew up in Oakland. Washington is NOWHERE close to the crime that was there.

Washington state is a high crime state, but it is mostly property crime. As long as you stay out of Seattle and Tacoma, you won't have a lot to worry about as far as personal safety. Just don't leave anything out where somebody can lightfinger it because meth abuse is a big problem in certain areas.

As for Seattle and Tacoma, they both have gang and other kinda sorta big city problems (Seattle only has about half a million folks), but it is nowhere near the warzones that you find in the big cities in California. There have been a number of late night shootings at downtown Seattle clubs recently, but during the day, it's decently safe.

This is almost as ridiculous as reading what people in Seattle are calling the "Seattle Freeze" lol. Compare what happens in WA to the rest of the country and it's no big deal at all..
