Learn how to drive in the rain.
I'm convinced it's all the California transplants driving 40 on the freeway as soon as it starts raining.

There is a difference...

If it hasn't rained for months the first rains make for very slick roads.

If it rains often... the roads never have a chance to build up to the point of being slick.

OK, you're from California too.

I know what you mean though, a first rain can make the roads slick, but no one needs to be driving 40MPH on the freeway. If you are that unsure, then stay off the freeway.

Yep... born in San Jose California... 5th generation Californian on Dad's side...

That said I really love Western Washington and have since my first visit at age 16 on a road trip with several of my High School friends over Christmas break.

I was standing out Boston Harbor Way and said someday I'm going to own a home here... it took years before it happened... ironically, the home I bought was under construction when I was 16.

Mom had never been to Washington and she is not from California... she was born at her family's small dairy farm... to this day... everyone thinks she is the local and say how nice it is to have me up for a visit!

She met more of my neighbors in one week than I did in a year... mostly by going out with a shovel and wheelbarrow filing in potholes on the shared gravel road.

Boston Harbor? Nice. We paddleboard out of the marina there often and take our dog to Burfoot all the time.
We're up by the post office in Lacey.

South Sound is still a secret to many...

The entire area has just about anything one might need and "Roughly" midway between Seattle and Portland.

I would love to spend more time on the water... I've had friends motor or sail down from Seattle to Olympia for a summer weekend... would like to give that a try myself.

Lacey sure has grown... there use to be very little on the West side of I5... once the Cabellas went in and the Jubilee... and then on the other side of 5 with Home Depot and all the new shops... remember when that was mostly forested...

Now we're walking down memory lane. We moved here in 1979.
That whole side of I-5 was a place to ride dirt bikes when I was a kid. Home Depot used to be a DoT office/workshop, but you could ride all around it, then jump across the street where Safeway and that strip mall is and ride your dirt bike all the way down to Thompson Place and past that. You could also ride all the way down out to where Beachcrest is now and out to the powder docks.
Over by Cabelas was a gravel pit with some awesome trails and hills.
Marvin Road was a quiet two lane road back then, so we could walk our bikes across the overpass in between cars if you caught the lights just right. If you didn't, you may have to stand there for 3-5 minutes waiting your turn while your buddies who did make it were yelling at you to hurry up.
Marvin and Martin was a flashing red light, with the Wayside Tavern sitting on the corner where Chase is now. Norma's was across the street where 76 is sitting today.
Ride your dirt bike down to Norma's for a burger and shake, then out to Herders to ride trails the rest of the day.
I'm glad Norma's is still around on Martin Way. We don't go to the one in the valley.

The growth, especially Lacey has been phenomenal...

When the 7/11 went in on the other side of the overpass I knew it would only be a matter of time.

Back in the late 70's was the first time I discovered the Boston Harbor area and found it magical... minutes from the State Capital yet a very rural feel and none of the urban traffic...

At one time my retired teacher lived in Purdy... and she always said she was going to come to Boston Harbor for a visit by boat... she was still substituting in her 70's...

I took Mom to celebrate her birthday to Alderbrook... I have never been there... we had a great time on one of those perfect July afternoon and evenings.
