Also in Bremerton, a hearty thank you! to all the taxpayers in the rest of the US that generously donate so much to my district here on the Olympic Peninsula through our popular congressman Norm Dicks. And when you bring home the pork you get a nice federal building named after you and nobody brings it home better than Norm.

While driving home from Yakima yesterday, I took a little detour, a trip into the Teanaway River Valley. Sorry for quality, these are cell phone photos! (You can get a larger view of any of these by clicking on them).

Where I used to camp every summer as a child:

Behind the campground a very nice creek flows:

People build rock damns on this thing every summer to create little pools of water. I did a couple of small ones while I was there. Haven't done this since I was a kid!

Here is a large one that was already there. Interestingly there are deep pools of water on BOTH sides of this thing! (on the downstream side I stepped into a pool that sunk me down to my knees quite suddenly and unexpectedly!)

Back out on the road from the campground:

There is a spot where another fork of the creek runs under a bridge on the main road through the valley. It is a popular spot (for people who know about it!) to stop and spend some time playing in the water!

(On the other side of that log were little tiny fish or tadpoles or something swimming around!)

Back toward the road:

This little (teeny tiny!) store use to be run be a very old lady when I was a kid. After she died the store was closed for years. Last time I went in there (about 3 years ago) it was reopened and being run by the original owner's granddaughter:

And a few more shots I snapped on my way back out of the Valley towards Cle Elum:

Moderator cut: statement removed I didn't post a picture, but I have to say... I just cried my was through 27 pages of pictures. I love Montana, I really do... but I am so homesick right now for the PNW. Thank you all for the awesome pictures. The trip down memory lane was amazing.

I think quite a few of us share your despair. I live in Phoenix AZ now...At least Montana is somewhat gorgeous on the west side.
