Have you experienced -40C?
Now imagine if there was a blackout, you'd need mounds of seal skin or whatever to keep you warm, and you could barely go outside for more than a few minutes.
Clouds have never killed anyone (not talking about rain, or SAD-related suicide ).
It would be interesting to know how many people actually do die of the cold in Yellowknife. My guess is not that many, I've read before that more older people die of cold-related illnesses in Britain than in genuinely cold places because of inferior heating/insulation compared to Canada, lack of proper winter clothes, falling on snow because they don't have snow boots, etc, not to mention the damp chill we get is a good breeding ground for bacteria.
And I don't believe that 0 for December, considering they'll have a possible 100-120 or so. 10-20 is more likely.
0 sun hours in december but all 24 in june. That should be great.
It's at 62N, so without bothering to look it up they should get 4-5 hours of daylight a day in December, which is why I don't believe the sun average of 0 as that would mean every December day is always overcast. Summer is probably 20-21 hours of daylight and 3-4 hours of twilight, which makes their four hours a day of sun in June even more horrific as it means 80% of the time the sky is cloudy.

Certainly something to consider, but if homes are well insulated and they have woodstoves, I'm sure they'd manage just fine.
I had to think about it for a while, but Torshavn won out in the end for me. I don't want experience winters as cold as in Yellowknife, and I have a feeling that after experiencing such temperatures, 70 degrees would feel like 80-90 does to me now. In the end, Torshavn's year-round comfortableness is more attractive to me.

I agree. I think the number is higher. A location like that would not be permanently overcast for a whole month year after year.
