This is actually a picture taken on the 3rd April 2010 up the road from me (I live on that road) and the snow is still lying after falling on 30th march.
Goodbye Atlantic weather. Sunshine and low humidity tomorrow onwards all week. Frosts tomorrow night onwards for as long as 9 days so far. It will freeze the ground up and dry it up after this wet period that we've had with few frosts but quite a bit of snow falling.

Today was 9.3/-1.9°C (48.7/28.6°F) and sunny, the biggest diurnal range of the year so far. It felt quite warm under the sun. It's clearly stronger than in December.
How common are high teens in February in Leeds?
Here we got a 17°C high 2 years ago on the 11th and it felt very warm. By mid-February, the sun is usually strong enough to burn off stratus clouds during anticyclonic spells. From November to early February, zonal flows are usually sunnier.
You said that spring is when you got the biggest diurnal ranges. How about early autumn? I've noticed that the widest daily swings are often recorded in September over here. Last year made no exception, with 31.2/9.4°C on September 9th. In spring, I believe it happens most frequently in March.
Its great though. We sometimes have days were its -4c and then 18 by afternoon love those days.
