tough decision.. I think I'll go with Wodonga as it has warm summers and winters that aren't significantly chillier than either Melbourne, Portland or Mildura.

Wodonga as well. It's more "continental" than Melbourne, Portland or Falls Creek and much rainier than Mildura.

Melbourne- it's just that little bit wetter in summer, not that it stops Melbourne from generally looking brown and dry during summer.

Wodonga and Portland would both be alright. Falls creek would be fine for a winter break, but a bit grim otherwise. Mildura is way too dry, although it never bothered me at the time, when I lived there.

Wodonga - yearly means are very pleasant, and rainfall is verging on a Mediterranean pattern.
Summers are warmish, but minimums stay at an acceptable level.
Wodonga is right on the border with it's twin town Albury in NSW - so climate is virtually the same as this place which I am familiar with.

I voted for Melbourne.

Mainly for the mild winter nights and summer nights that are warm enough. The daytime temps could be warmer, but they're still acceptable.
