A for the winter temperatures and F for the low rainfall.

This (sadly) is true. Most cold fronts don't make it this far north, even getting to the Central Tablelands (Oberon) is a bit of a struggle these days. The 1984 outbreak was a cracker though, bringing snow as far north as the Darling Downs (Toowoomba). In this event both the Northern Tablelands of NSW and the "Granite Belt" of QLD around Stanthorpe received significant snowfall. Unfortunately wasn't around to experience it first hand, but you can read an account here:

snow (scroll down to 'July 1984 Snowfalls').

The link at the end of that page about Queensland snowfalls is interesting: Qld Snowfalls
Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be completely accurate though as I can see a few mentions of Brisbane in there. Maybe people mistook very small hail for snow.

Just noticed that this joint gets 14 clear days each month in July and August. That would explain the cold winter lows.... IMO I would not mind this at all. Better than Melbourne's 7C+ winter lows, but almost always cloudy or overcast

Looking at the number of clear days, it wouldnt surprise me if this location had an annual average sunshine of around 3000 hours.

D.

A step above Canada... barely.
(Vancouver = D-, Toronto = F+)

I give it a B. Summers have warm but not excessively hot days and mild nights. Winter do have chilly nights but afternoons are fairly mild -- and don't forget winter is the driest. sunniest time of year in this climate.

Regarding sunshine at this site, the three nearest sites with sunshine data available average, respectively, 2700, 2800 and 3100 annual sunshine hours. These are all over 100 mm dryer though, so I would guess that Stanthorpe would be around the 2700 hr mark.

Seriously? Summers are similar to Toronto or Bunbury temp-wise while winters are vastly warmer, drier and sunnier than Vancouver. Are you really telling me that Stanthorpe is only marginally preferrable to Vancouver?

Everyone I've met who's been there (I met them in WA) has been cold or too cold.

I rechecked the BOM stats for Decile 1's and summer isn't as bad as I'd thought.
12.8 C for Decile 1 lows in summer... I still hate them though.

C- is the best I can give Stanthorpe.
No where in Western Australia has average winter temperatures as cold as Stanthorpe. (14.8 C high/1 C low)
I also do not see the benefit of "milder and drier summers than Brisbane"
as most of the time I was in Brisbane, I did not feel warm... in February!

I dislike the Decile 9 high never passing 32 C/90 F.
That means it would surprise local residents to see 33 C/ 91 F any time of year.
