I think it's not that strange for somewhere to be abnormally cold to balance out somewhere else being abnormally warm but by itself, 27C for Winnipeg on March 18th?! Anybody know what the average/record is?
Edit -
Quote:
Manitoba is experiencing a bout of warm weather with temperatures almost 30 degrees above seasonal. It usually feels closer to 0°C this time of year but on Saturday, Winnipeg reached a high of 19.2°C - breaking the previous record of 12.2°C, set back in 1938.
27C today against previous records like that is incredible - no further from average than London getting a high of -3C in midsummer or something!
The recent heat in North America is incredible, and as far as I'm concerned incredibly horrific. It's not surprising that a record-smashing heat wave in Winnipeg would yield temperatures hotter than typical to cooler than usual weather in San Francisco. These comparisons between locations (like "Location X is hotter/colder than (usually warmer/cooler) Location Y") are overhyped.

Are you sure that's not a date record? According to Wiki the March record for Winnipeg is 23C. Either way it is almost unbelievable, the average max this time of year in Winnipeg is -1.1C.. just insane!

Having first hand experience( I live in Winnipeg). record : Highest Temperature (1938-2008) 8.8°C 2000
This morning they said it would get to 28c today, clouds rolled in this morning and it will be lucky to get to 22-23. Tomorrow going to be 25-27c hopefully.
Though I am not complaining, enjoying this great weather for this time of year.
Our average high is 0c today, if it gets to 25-27 tomorrow it will be a 1 in 1000 year weather event.
Golf courses are open, snow is completely gone, just amazing. Patio/bbq weather, bring it on!

To put it into some sort of context how far-fetched that seems to me, our average for today in London is 11C, but nowhere in this country has ever seen above 22.3C on 18th March - and nowhere has ever seen above 25C on any date in the whole of the month!
Los angeles high 14 today only,
Palm springs high 16, right now 8,
Phoenix, high 14 today
Las vegas, 8 right now, high 11 today
It is expremely rare for winnipeg to be warmer then all of these locations at once.
