Savona, according to the Köppen climate classification system, has a desert climate (BWk) with long, hot, dry and sunny summers with a very long warm season and mild, short, pleasant winters with very little snowfall.

Weather-related recreation and agriculture:

Although a very mild climate, Savona is known for it's sunny beaches in the summer along Lake Savona, which stays warm from mid April to early October. The average water temperature in Lake Savona is 25-26ºC (77ºF-79ºF) during the summer months. During the winter, the city's proximity to a large mountain range gives skiing enthusiasts somewhere to enjoy skiing and other winter activities, with mild weather to warm you up once you return from the ski hills. Wineries and fruit growing are the main industries in the region due to the warm, sunny climate.

Mount Chatham, about 30 km northwest of the city, is a premium skiing destination with sunny weather and evening flurries common, with a very mild skiing temperature of -5ºC (23ºF) during the day and evening hours.

Summer:

Summer in Savona is considered to last from May to October, with temperatures commonly above 32ºC (90ºF) and in the peak months of July and August, temperatures reach 40ºC (104ºF) or above on average almost 20 days per year. Humidity is low, usually staying below 40% for most of the month. Summer thunderstorms do occur, with an average of 1-3 severe thunderstorms in the region during July and August. Tornadoes are very rare. However, the main attraction in Savona is the sun. In June, July and August, Savona averages 400+ sunshine hours. One of the sunniest places in the world. Temperatures have been known to reach 50ºC (122ºF) very rarely, last happening in August 2012. Wildfires can be a problem in the region due to hot temperatures, little precipitation and lightning. The hottest point of the year is late July-mid August, where high temperatures average at 35ºC (95ºF). Cool nights in the region are a relief from the day-time heat. Temperatures usually drop below 20ºC (68ºF) even when the temperature is above 40ºC (104ºF).
July 2014 was the third hottest month in Savona's history ever since records began, with an average high of 40.3ºC (104.5ºF) during the month.

The other two seasons:

Autumn begins in early October, however, temperatures are still warm at the point and the first frost doesn't usually happen until late October, so most trees leaves don't change colour and fall off their branches until early November. Autumn is dry. Snow is rare and thunderstorms are common in early autumn. Wildfires are still a risk until late October.

Spring in Savona begins in late February, with the spring bloom occurring around that time. Spring is short due to the early summer start. Thunderstorms are common in April, although they are rarely severe. Light rainshowers are also common. Wildfires are a risk during most of spring. Temperatures do rise above 30ºC (86ºF) during spring and have been known to come close to 40ºC (104ºF). Cold snaps are rare and orchards and vineyards are rarely affected by occasional overnight cold temperatures.

Rate the climate? Not a lot of people are huge fans of dry climates but I really like this one. Even if temperatures are too high, you have the beach.

F+. 20 days per year above 40 C and a record high above 50 C is potentially dangerous.

C- for me.

It started off sounding good, but in the end, it was just too hot. It fails the test of a good summer, as I don't think it would be comfortable.

Big pluses for the skiing and fruit growing though.

D. Too hot in general, and too sunny. It's not an F because it could be worse.

Also, nice pictures

There is a "real" place in BC called Savona (located at west end of Kamloops Lake),
and ironically has a similar deserty climate as described.

I give it a B+ as I would any Okanagan/Thompson/Fraser interior BC climate.
Just a bit too hot in summer the only downside.

Where do you think I got the name?
It just perfectly fits a desert climate for some reason.

As per the CD forum rules, posting copyright photos is not allowed. At the very least, you must credit each photo that's not yours with a link, so both the photographer gets acknowledged and I can check it's not copyrighted.

D- to E+. Too hot and dry. I have difficulty imagining that the lake would be at 25 C when the days are so hot. Osoyoos Lake itself tends to be in the 23-25 C range and its summer days are far cooler than Savona's. Those vineyards and orchards would not survive without irrigation, which is an environmental consideration (sorry to be a party pooper, lol). Make the summers milder and the winters significantly wet (like a Mediterranean climate) and it would be a B.
