Aberdeen's 39.4 hours after 26.5 days (or roughly 450 possible hours) comes out at less than 9%. I had a brief look to see how Torshavn's been getting on but couldn't find anything other than this forecast - practically no diurnal range whatsoever, only 1C difference over nearly a week!

Account should always be taken of the actual maximum measurable sunshine recordable at the site, particularly if non-electronic (Campbell-Stokes and the like) methods are used. For the latter type at London's latitude, even with no obstructions at all the July maximum would be no more than about 480 hours.

According to this (not an official site but the only reference to possible max sun hours I've ever seen for this country) our maximum possible sun hours for July is only 454 (not even 15 hours a day, which would roughly exclude the first and last half-hour of daylight).

Melbourne actually exceeded 100 hours! 106.1 hours for the 28 days in July so far. By Australian standards, it's a joke. It should also be noted that the sun is recorded at the airport, 20km northwest of the city center, and is probably the sunniest part of Melbourne. Alot of the time it can be clear in the northern suburbs while the rest of the metro area is overcast with low coastal cloud so some southern suburbs could well still be under 100 hours.

One clue.. the airport recorded 14 rain days this month so far, while the eastern/SE suburbs (where I am) are sitting at around 18-19 according to BOM observations.

No, didn't have time to get up there. What is the final monthly total now?

Can't even begin to imagine. Here we have exceeded 100 hours and all I can remember is overcast mornings, no instance of fully clear skies, only short periods of sunshine never lasting more than half of available daylight hours. NOT ONE FULLY CLEAR DAY!!!!

Melbourne for the first 30 days of Judas-ly: 115 hours (3.8 per day, 0.7 below average)

If I lived in Scotland, I would've killed myself by now. I just can't digest that fact that some places are just reaching 40 hours there with their very long duration of daylight at that latitude. It is beyond comprehension.

There's a poor sod living there in Aberdeen who has the same preferences as me in weather it seems, must say it's funny reading his comments on another forum:

The world's worst weather continues. Yet another day of vapid relentless overcast nothingness.

It is like a stagnant area of perma cloud has formed and nothing will shift it.

It's driving me round the bend. I have not experienced any direct sunshine at all since last Friday lunchtime. There has just been half an hour since made up of 30 second glimmers now and again. It replaces 5th - 11th June 2012 as the dullest summer week I have experienced.

It's now looking like a pigs breakfast of cool, cloudy north westerlies followed by a washout southerly tracking low than a northerly

Summer 2012 truly is giving a whole new meaning to the term "write-off"

LOL
