A lot of the snow on the hills has gone, 200-300mm/8-12 inches of rain over the last 3-4 days has warmed things up a bit.

The grass is growing again.

Cold and gloomy here... averaging nearly 3 C below average temp and over triple mean rainfall MTD. Certainly the coldest June I can remember.

Got about two minutes of sun today. It was awesome to see those few rays of sunshine shining as a beacon of hope in the midst of all the gloom. The contrast in illuminated / shaded areas on the hills was beautiful to behold.

Not 3C though. According to Explorer maps to the 19th, Ch'ch deficit is somewhere in 1.5C-2.0C (greater in an area to the south and west of there). I expect the deficits over most of the country will decrease in the last portion of the month, but it will still end up as a rather cold one. Ch'ch Aero's lowest Tmean for June was 4.6C in 1992 (records from 1954), then 4.8C in 2006. Lowest at the Gardens was 4.5C in 1951 (using continuous record from 1905). Your area is one of 3 regions with significantly above average rainfall so far - most of the North Island has been quite dry so far, but that may look different soon.

Sunhisne in your area and mine is now a little in deficit after being ahead earlier on. We were well ahead, but a recent run of cloudy to overcast days has finished that off for the time being.

The last couple of days have been STUNNING here in BA with temps around 16/17celsius, super sunny, lows around 12c!!! so so so beautiful and even warmer than forecast.

Today day was WONDERFUL but temp was a bit over the top, exceeding 20c at daytime! super warm! and sunny! but it wasnt uncomfortable cause there was a breeze.
At night temp was 14c.

This June is beeing so amazing: we had the cold snap, days have been mostly sunny, and now we are enjoying some average and slightly above average sunny pic nic days. So far June is so much better than May!

It has felt spring like for the last week, with the exception of one day (-3/8C). Willow trees have buds already, and the bananas are pushing out growth.

Watched a rugby game over the hill (Takaka ) yesterday. A balmy sea breeze, and perfect rainbow the whole game.

High of 20 C yesterday, about 10 C above average for this time of year (but still well shy of the record). Was quite sureal stepping out of my 10 C house into the warmth outside.

A perfect blue dome right now... this month has finally come around!
