Lets look back at just a couple big December snowstorms & Blizzards for Eastern U.S..

December 30-31, 2000: A Classic NorEaster with a comma-shape 150 miles wide and 500 miles long. Snow from Delaware to Maine.. 10-20 inches in NJ and Hudson Valley, NY into Western CT

Dec 5-6, 2003 a nor'easter produced heavy snowfall throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions with intense snowfall rates. One of the largest early-season winter storms on record

Dec 14-16, 2003, Less than 2 weeks after the previous NorEaster this one was slightly weaker but not for the interior and northern areas

December 9-10, 2005...a small, intense nor’easter developed off the coast of New Jersey. Widespread 8-18 inches from PA to Southern New England.
Hurricane Force winds in Eastern MA

Dec 18-21, 2009 dumped 1-2 feet of snow on the Mid-Atlantic into Southern New England, Cat 3 on the NESIS scale

December 24-26, 2010. So much to say about this one. Epic for me.

A coastal special from NC/VA to New England. A powerful blizzard with 50 mph+ winds with drifting snow, whiteout, & Thundersnow

SNOW IN FLORIDA 46 YEARS AGO!

"On this day in 1977 an extremely rare snow event swept across our state. Areas of 1 - 3" fell across Central Florida and light snow was reported in SW Florida towards West Palm Beach & Miami. Snow flurries were in the Bahamas too!"

Whats funny is in 1974 Miami had the 2nd warmest spring on record pre 1989.

Summer 1981 was warmest on record for that time.

Imagine seeing snow in between. Crazy extremes...always happening

323 years ago today at approximately 9pm local time The Big One hit the PNW. Not exactly weather-related I know.

*BELOW ZERO IN FLORIDA* on this day in 1899 along with snow across the state. Tallahassee hit -2°, the only known subzero temps in Florida on record. Fort Myers had Gulf-effect snow that collected on palm trees. Truly historic arctic outbreak!

This is coming up because there is a chance San Francisco sees snow this week

The last widespread snowfall down to near sea level in the San Francisco Bay Area was 47 years ago, on February 5, 1976

Was watching old weather reports this from Tom Skilling on WGN Jan 1994. One of the coldest days on record. I remember it well I was doing HVAC back then. A lot of no heat calls mostly from cold downdrafts that blew out standing pilots in furnaces. Wind chill was as low as -63F

The 14th to 20th looked wild with the temps! I bet not a lot of snow fell either... "Too Cold To Snow" (not technically) because the Jet stream is suppressed.

sure enough... Yup... Big snowstorm south of Mid West from Ohio Valley into New England

Some snow fell in Chicago only because it was high ratio fluff stuff with those temps. .09" fell and produced 3" of snow. Thats 33:1 ratios!!
