I wouldn't consider Anchorage a "bona fide" Alaskan winter either, way too mild. Yes, has cold winters indeed, but it has a typical run-of-the-mill continental type winter to me.
While Anchorage certainly isn't the worst (or best) Alaska has to offer, I'm sure a large swath of Alaska features Anchorage/Minneapolis-level winters.

Anchorage has an average winter for Alaska I think, not too mild and not too cold. If Anchorage doesn't have a bona fide Alaska winter, what do you classify Juneau, Unalaska and Ketchikan?
Torshavn is an endless late-fall/winter travesty. At least Minneapolis has summers.
