This was an exceptionally sunny and dry month.
We still have six hours to go but the rain I thought we'd get today won't happen 'til after midnight - if then.

Some numbers from Hyslop Field, Corvallis' official weather station:
Ave Max - 86.8 (30.5); The warmest since 1985 and third warmest ever.
Ave Min - 51.4 (10.8); Barely above standard.
Precipitation - 0, nada. We generally have fairly dry Julys but this is the first time we didn't even get a trace since 2003.
We don't track sunshine hours here but My 'calibrated' eye tells me that we may have hit 95 to 98 percent possible for the month. The only seriously cloudy day we had was the 20th and even then we were in full sun by noon.

Numbers from my house:
Ave Max - 87.9 (31 and a smidge)
Ave Min - 56 (13.5); I live in town and the elevated night time temperature reflects a slight Urban effect.
Sunshine was basically the same as Hyslop.
We actually got a little rain on the 20th but not enough to measure. Merely a trace.

From the standpoint of being able to do outdoor activities without being bothered by rain, it was about as good a month as you can get in these parts. As hot as the daytime temperatures averaged, we never got above 94 (34.3 or so) at Hyslop and hit only 97 as our house. We just didn't get a whole lot of marine influence keeping our temperatures down. Unlike hot summer in past times we didn't have to deal with heat exhaustion. This has been a truly splendid month....
From the standpoint of insuring adequate water for the remainder of this year and next, this had better be the last dry month we have this year. I don't much care for summer rain, but we got (adjective) little of it during our normally wetter winter and spring so however much I might carp about a wet August and fall, both will help with our rapidly deteriorating water supply situation and our equally rapid increase in wildfire danger.
