April 2013 in Duluth just surpassed November 1991 as the SINGLE SNOWIEST MONTH with 51.0" of snow fallen already. Locals have complained and complained as yet another storm dumps snow on the city. Much of the snow that fell in November 1991 fell between Halloween and November 1st in a gigantic storm memorialized as the "Megastorm"; snowmobilers rode through Downtown and on the freeway then. Not the case this month: most people are sick of winter, and the snow has come down not in one giant storm but in a series of repeated storms that are large enough to have to plow out of but not large enough to have a major disabling impact on the city.

What was the snowiest month on record in your city? If you were living then, how was it?

On average, January is the snowiest. The snowiest on record was Feb 1947 though, with 47cm in parts of London.

January 1950 set Corvallis' (oregon) single month snowfall record at 51.8 inches (~132 cm).
That was truly a one-off; the next greatest monthly snowfall amount was in Jamnuary 1969 when 24 inches fell.

Records only go back to 1893 for snowfall so before that, who knows. It's possible that there were some months in the early - middle 1800's that produced such (comparatively) monstrous totalsbut we have no way of knowing....

On the average, the snowiest month is January, which doesn't really get much snow (less than 4in/10cm). However, this winter has been very snowy, and December 2012 was the snowiest month in history with almost a metre of snow (40in), of which all was concentrated in the blizzard in the middle of the month.
