Among the 2 scenarios under clear skies with the Canadian prairie chill currently invading , which one is more likely:
A low of 6 F in Boston, MA
A low of -6 F in Madison, WI
Equal chances of both
This is pertaining to the current arctic blast sweeping the nation. I would go with Equal chances. Its supposed to be just 23 F here tomorrow, with an overnight low of 9 F, so 6 F in Boston is surely possible. In Miluwakee, its supposed to be highs in the upper teens to lows in the single digit negatives, so -6 F is not out of question as well.
I'd say they're both probable, if it's going to be in the single digits below zero in Milwaukee it'll likely be a bit cooler than -6 F in Madison, likely around -10 F. 6 F in Boston seems very probable as well. I'd say equal chances.
Both are very real possibilities that occur during cold snaps in the winter in both cities (unlike my "which is more likely threads" that deal with outliers). I'd say the -6 F in Madison is more common though.
Wunderground has Boston hitting 2 F on Dec. 16, Madison bottoming out at 1 F on Dec. 15. So... boston.
