Christ. We only reached 26°C on that day yet there's barely 1°C between our averages.
Today just seems too windy and cloudy to get warm here. Totally overcast again now gone 1PM. Max will probably be 21°C, maybe 22°C, a thoroughly boring unmemorable day and complete total let down after all the usual "hype". I long for an exceptional "proper" hot day like August 3rd, 1990 when the whole country actually had a hot day, not just f**king london.
Apologies - I should have mentioned that I was in York that day so followed the Linton-on-Ouse temperatures. Bingley got to 28.1C, though I think Church Fenton was something like 30.7C so the Pennine heatshield was in full effect.
It's nearly an hour ago but here are the 1 pm obs: 18.1/14.8, sunshine getting hazy, E wind with gusts up to 30 mph. It doesn't look like a 25C is in the cards for us today.
24th July 2012 and also 5th August 2007 were far warmer, sunnier days than this pig slop. Both in so called "poor summers". To think they outdid this one in terms of warmest max temperatures reached....
