Florida leads the league by a huge margin.

I find it funny that Florida is the only state on the list that is also in the top 5 for lightning frequency.

What am I not understanding about the numbers? The article says that Florida has more lightning deaths and injuries than all other states combined; but the total for just the next three states on the list is more than Florida, never mind all the other states added in.

I think Florida ranks 4th or 5th when you look at lightning deaths per capita by state.

I was injured by a lightning strike years ago in the Adirondack mountains of New York. I was at a boy scout camp and it was a rainy day. It didn't seem like "thunderstorm weather" more like a steady rain. We were all sitting under a tarp on a picnic table that was next to a large tree. The picnic table had metal legs and I was sitting on a bolt that attached the bench to the legs.

There was NO lightning prior to this strike. We were sitting there and all of a sudden a huge flash and sparks and what looked like smoke or steam. I do not recall what happened but I woke up laying in a tent that was about 10 feet from the bench. I had a good sized burn on my toes and one on my buttocks where I was sitting on the bolt.

Western Europe is a giant dud when it comes to thunderstorms and lightning according to that world map.

They're not as frequent but mainland Europe gets some really good storms.

London and the SE has enjoyed some excellent storms today. Shame the NW/North has missed out again.
