Can I have some more views from outside the UK? I'm interested to know what the rest of the world thinks...

Depends when you go in it, last summer it didn't feel cold at all, think it was around 21C/22C & that is the temperature in the middle of the Solent, (temperature is taken from a buoy at Bramble Bank), close to the shore it will be warmer anyway...

I know the West Wittering is usually quite warm. But wouldn't think anywhere around the England channel would av anywhere near above 20c. Though last year had a fairly hot July, so that would obviously bring water temps up...

It does in warm weather. The Solent around Hayling Island reached 22.8C a few weeks back, this is out at sea too, so close to the shore it will be warmer...

Quite respectable temps I would say... I sore a picture of the average sea temp for August 2014 around the Spanish/Portuguese area, and on the Atlantic side it's all mostly below 20c! So waters in this area have been higher than where some people spend there holidays!

This was the sea temperature around the Solent at the end of July this year, temperatures above 20C are shown as orange shades...

And this shows that the Solent warms quicker than the rest of the channel coast (due to the shelter of the Isle of Wight). Sea temperature earlier in the year...
