Bloody hell ! Thank **** October is over ! One of the hottest and driest Octobers across the Top End since records began in 1941 ( at Darwin Airport )
October is a 'build up' month in the deep north, but this year, with an El Nino and positive IOD in full force, it has been dry as a dead dingo's donger, hot as buggery, bushfires burning still, and no thunderstorms ( at least, none in the Darwin 'burbs )
Dryest Oct since 1982 when the Airport recorded 1.2mm
And, this 'dry season' is the longest and dryest since 1953 when only 0.5mm fell between April 20th and November 1st.
2023 we have recorded 1.6mm between April 28th and Oct 31st.
My tropical garden is suffering big time....
Quite a few consecutive weeks heatwave warnings have been in force and I believe there are some monthly mean records set as well, but I need to fact check this....
It's been particularly hot inland from Darwin... ie out at Kakadu and in the Douglas-Daly Districts of the Top End.
