I just called up the obs...

I saw 161614Z observation temp/dew pt was M13/M24 wind was 31014g24kt

There was no regular 161651z obs that is routine....
Next obs was 161751z and wind was calm and temp/dew pt was M01/M20 then up to 00 at the next hour and calm wind still

So likely a fan and/or something else went on.

Hoy crap! Just got around to it... look how deep the trough goes.

This is GFS12z for Thursday morning.

850mb freezing line like you said to southern Florida.
Vortex just north of Great Lakes!
-20C for north Georgia Mountains.
This will help cool the waters off the East coast more.
Record temps for sure. This is Deep

Jacksonville Normal 850mb temp is +8C, they are close to -10C here.

Clear skies with no wind over here now. Temps are plummeting.

KFOK (Gabreski) just dropped from 19F to 8F in the past hour. Rapid drops like that are very rare here! I wonder if it'll hit zero. Radiative cooling ftw!

Much of eastern LI is experiencing similar but less pronounced drops Western LI is a different story due to NYC's UHI. Still mid-upper 20s in the city. Strong gradient across the island.

Nashville reaching 7 below?!?
Last subzero reading there was Feb 1996 and last time it was at least as cold was the formidable Dec 1989.

Nature pulling no punches here comes arctic surge #2 with 6C 850 mb temps reaching down to Miami! Considering our low of 47 last saturday came with 8C 850MB temps this is a serious push of arctic air...However as currently forecasted it will not be as intense as the one this week with 0-3C 850temps through thursday and friday.

Climatology at some point kicks in. These conditions are extreme for this late in February.
