I didn't expect these temps today.. 5pm NYC at 88. Lets see if they peaked to 90 today. Wow. Thought Tuesday was the better chance.
There's always tomorrow.
For the gloom and doom about late June-early July, there are often breaks in these patterns. Even the gloomy summer of 1969 (featuring similar troughing) had a mid-month four-day heat wave and August, notwithstanding the Woodstock thunderstorms, was not bad. Most of the four or five 90''s in that August would have been 86's or 87's in Central Park with the tree cover but August was not a washout.
Only 2000 and 2004 were almost totally miserable, though 2004 had some nice weather in August.
Except at LGA, which hit 92 on 6/11, still waiting on Central Park and JFK though.
JFK hit 90 today, that only leaves Central Park.

That's insane that it hasn't hit 90F in the time that I've lived here. Looking back at my own records I see that I hit 90F only three times last year, once during meteorological spring (05/27), summer (7/08), and fall (09/02).

Global warming. Much last NYC's last two winters. </sarcasm>

One quibble. Many meteorologists use June 6 to September 6 as meteorological summer, which seems to make sense. 90's are fairly common through my 58 year life and 48 years following weather into Labor Day weekend, and they fall off sharply after. Exceptions were such years as 1970, 1972 (a 92 degree reading two Sundays after Labor Day), 1983, 1991 and 1993. Even years with searing late-season heat, such as 1953, 1973 and 2010 (97-99 and in one case 100+ in early September) usually fall off fast during the second week of September.
The first 95 °F for Central Park will be occur tomorrow.
