I think the average resident in a variable climate would pay more attention to the weather because the weather can change at a drop of a hat (Like Denver last November, where it went from the 70s to the 10s in 24 hours). In a place like San Diego, I think people take their "pleasant" weather for granted. I guess it could go both ways honestly.
Both are likely true. I was never interested in the weather before I moved to Florida, though. But that's probably because there's anything else to be interesting in down here, lol. Small differences in weather are more noticeable in boring climates, though.
I don't agree. People there probably take "interesting" weather (miserable, more like) for granted and they don't give it much thought. A weather enthusiast who lives in a boring climate is more likely to notice small changes in the weather that you might not notice in a more variable climate. I think people who live in uninteresting climates tend to more in tune with the weather for this reason. There are exceptions, of course.
I think there's a limit to how interesting a boring thing can become to you.
Florida weather is miserable, and the lack of seasonal change compared to places north just seems torturous. Like, a weather club here could at least make the fall seasonal changes a topic of discussion..
I live in a fairly variable climate but we do see extended stretches of boring weather, summer is a bore here, although it's the best part of the year as far as weather goes (imo). Winter is mostly boring, outside of snowstorms, which are never a guarantee.
Florida weather doesn't have to be the only topic of discussion though.

Absolutely LEGENDARY storm happening right now just near Montpellier, France! Lightning flashes every second, loud thunder, heavy rain and wind and warm humid air.. Was gonna walk down to the beach to watch it but that would be a bit stupid... This is the type of storm Galaxyman dreams of in Melbourne!
Speaking of boring, I found a year for Nelson, where the highest temperature for the year was only 7C warmer than the annual daily maximum (17C/24C).
You had a year which didn't get above 24C?!
Bingley actually didn't even get to 23C in 1993, but I seem to remember your summer forecasts regularly giving 25s and 26s, so I would have thought that not getting above 24C all year was borderline impossible there.
