Hurricane Partricia had grown to be incredibly strong with a min pressure of 880 and SUSTAINED winds of 200 mph.
Stronger than Typhoon Tip?
Wow, that's crazy. I wonder if resort hotels would be able to withstand winds like that.
There's a YouTube video I watched once of a 170 mph hurricane in Guam - the quality was poor, but you get some idea how incredibly fast that kind of wind speed really is. If I find it again, I'll post a link to it here.
Can't find the Guam footage, but here's a clip of Charley back in '04.
I could hit myself for not chasing this one - it was only two hours away from where I was living at the time. :/
I doubt the area would ever recover from a hit like that - I imagine the government would just have to move everyone out and make the entire southern 1/3rd of the state a huge national park. Rebuilding simply wouldn't be worth it.
I was in a hurricane once, and that was enough. Pretty scary. The wind blows for hours and hours. Anyway, just there other day I was thinking about taking a vacation at some Mexican resort. Maybe I'd better wait a month or so until hurricane season is over.
San Patricio and Barra de Navidad areas of Mexico will experience equivalent EF-5 tornado and 20 foot tsunami at same time as Hurricane Patricia makes landfall - @BillKarins
An EF5 tornado is the strongest tornado possible. If that's the case I'm predicting hundreds if not thousands of fatalities and complete destruction.
200 mph winds?! Wow. This is very scary. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that storm surge.
The only thing you can do in the face of a hurricane that strong is to get out of the way! Then come back later to assess the damage. I hope no one is thinking of staying put. That kind of force can knock down almost anything!
