I've said this before but I've seen clear days here in mid summer record only 12-13 hours when our day length is 16+ hours.. Go through our sunshine records and I think you'll find t very hard to find a day with more than 14 hours recorded, despite the fact that we do get days that are totally clear..
In reality, I'd say London is probably 1700-1800 hours, NYC 2300, LA 3000 ish, Barcelona and Nice 2900ish and most of southern Spain, Greek islands etc 3000ish
I don't think the sunshine hours for new York are overestimated by more than 200 hours! That would mean I have 2400 hours of sunshine! Doubt it. Still waiting on answer from my local weatherman.

I would say cutting 300 hours from NYC's totals is a bit too much. I think cutting 200 hours is probably closer to WMO standards.

I think because our skies are normally quite hazy, even the slightest haze seems to affect the CS recorder, even though it is still bright sunshine

We're not supposed to get any additional rain tomorrow.
That's 19 times the amount of rain that I received this month (a paltry 0.58 inches), my total for JJA is only 5.83 inches.

This month should rank among the top 3 warmest months on record, the landscape looks pretty bad. Some people think the trees shedding their leaves 2.5 months early is a sign of fall lol.

People are idiots. Back in August 2007, people thought the same thing when I lived in GA since trees were turning red/brown from heat and excessive dryness. Really? You think hotter than normal and drier than normal conditions is a sign of fall??

It's like when people think a random warm day in February means that spring has arrived. For all you know, it could be well below average the next two months.

Lol same here, people see a try changing and they think it's a sign of autumn when more than likely it's just drought stress or disease.

Well we never even cracked 100F. And guess what happened in August to the PDO? It has dropped. I said all along the warm PDO would give us cooler summers just like in the 80's. But there are like six teleconnections impacting North America. But the PDO has taken a big hit and that's why unlike May or June it got much warmer as summer went on.

And we are surely headed for neutral Niña now. Look at it. If the PDO goes strongly poz again like Bastardi says then a wicked winter for sure.
