Let me explain what I mean with CDsbb.

Both "C" and "b" climates have a very broad range. This is a way of being more specific.

  • The coldest month of C climates range from 0°C to 18°C. "CC" would be from 9 to 18 and "CD" from 0 to 9.
  • The warmest month of b climates range from 10°C to 22°C. "ba" would be from 16 to 22 and "bb" from 10 to 16.

So basically CDsbb climates are mediterranean climates with mediocre summers and cool winters.

Eureka is the only CDsbb climate I could find outside of Patagonia and it misses the CC/CD threshold (9°C) by just 0.2°C (8.8°C) while Esquel (1.6°C) is closer to D than to CC.

I obviously prefer Esquel because of the colder winters.

By the way, if someone knows of another CDsbb climate outside of Patagonia please let me know.

Esquel, because it has better winters and warmer summer days.

Esquel's seen both triple digits and negative F (38+ and below -18 C, respectively), even if those temperatures are probably once in a generation.

I think the best example would be Sequim, WA, it's very similar to Esquel.

No offense, but both suck. A lot!

Eureka is better for the winter temps but Esquel is better for the summer temps.

Also Eureka is too extremely rainy in the winters.

I go with Esquel, but with a small margin!

Hey, nice find! That's the most similar climate to Esquel outside of Patagonia that I've ever seen. Seems to have slightly warmer summers (that's good) and winters (that's bad) and sees less rain (also bad). Wish I could've included it in the battle.

There are others nearby such as Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Friday Harbor, Oak Harbor, Anacortes, Victoria, they are all wetter, but winters are warmer. For colder winters checkout Issaquah. I'll try to find something that comes to a closer match

Esquel is embarrasingly cold during summer nights and 21C highs too that is nothing to write home about. Had it been 24/7 (lol) in summer it'd beaten Eureka, but I can't vote for it on that basis. Eureka is comfy after all. It's a perpetual Swedish May mixed with late September.
