Every now and then I heard or read stories about the risk or chance of the Big One (A Massive earthquake) happening in next 20, 30, 50 or 100 years hitting California and how The San Andreas Fault is building steam and it could unleash the Big One. .

The Earthquakes of 1989 (6.9) and 1994 (6.7) were not considered the Big One. In the Movie "'he Great Los Angeles earthquake (Which I know was of course fiction! but was still a interesting movie) a 8.0 Earthquake hit and was called the Big One.

So what magnitude is considered 'The Big One'?

I'm more afraid of the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake which could be a potential 9.0 for obvious reasons. Generally anything over 8 is considered the big one

Yes and there a Faulty Line that runs right under downtown Los Angeles that from I have read is building steam and when/if it hits could be very destructive.

I had no idea earthquakes are "weather-related". News to me.

Earthquakes are not related to weather or geology - it's God punishing Californian heathens.

Magnitude is only part of the destructive potential of an earthquake. Amplitude due to shallow depth and distance from the epicentre are also major factors.

Yep, I'm not sure I'd even want to vist Seattle. I saw a documentary about it and there is no way large parts of the city could survive a major quake on the CSZ.
