Generally, people who run for government positions are qualified for the job. The reason there are so few females in the US government is that there are so few females running for government offices, probably because the low percentage of females in government discourages them from even trying.

We only need to balance it once - then it will become hopefully self-sustaining, or at least less unequal than before.

That's just asinine. Police work is obviously generally more suitable for men than for women.

This I agree with, if only because police work is such a physical job.

Encouraging women to do jobs like this if they want to = good.
Making an even gender split a goal: good.
Requiring that 50% of the people doing those jobs be women = ridiculous.

And yet they complain about, and mock, the criminals who beat up policewoman because they're the "weak sex" and how it was "cowardly" to do so. These people are such hypocrites.

I think that, if a woman were to do a male's job she should be expected to be treated like one. So if she gets beaten up and such, we shouldn't call her abusers "cowards".

The US was ranked the 32nd best place to be a girl, for that reason alone. Even Algeria was ranked above the US, which I thought was pretty silly. Sweden and Finland were ranked the best, which probably won't surprise anyone.

I just discovered messing around on Google Earth that São Paulo CBD in Brazil is almost exactly on the Tropic of Capricorn...just a tiny bit south of it. The northern half of the metropolitan region is in the tropics and the southern half is not. Interesting.

And Mecca is roughly parallel to Honolulu (21.4 vs 21.5 N). and actually, the latter city has slightly higher average low in the coldest month..
