While driving back I saw two lightning bolts strike within a split second of each other, one on either side of the highway up ahead. And it was near the leading edge of the storm, with a patch of blue sky in the background! Crazier still, that was the ONLY time I saw lightning or heard thunder today - after that it was just a rain shower.
I've considered driving toward t-storms during those periods when it seems like I miss everything.

Another t-storm formed last night almost directly over the airport then moved away. I got nothing. Now the airport has nearly two inches of rain more than I got over the past week.

There is no thunderstorm here. Are those storms strong?

They can be strong occasionally. It's been a while since I've had a storm that I found very impressive.

When you live in a location where that happens more often than not, it can be very tempting. I did it a few times in summer 2015 and always ended up seeing CG lightning.

49 days so far with thunder

January: 6
February: 2
March: 4
April: 9
May: 5
June: 11
July: 12 so far (although all t-storms pretty much missed my location this month, if there was anything while I was at work it couldn't have been much...)

It seems like lately thunderstorms have been forming to the west then moving away.

So far today most development has been to the SW and W, but not so close to take away the instability yet. The next couple of days have decent chances, but unfortunately next week it looks like high pressure may strengthen.

Update for the year:

January: 0
February: 0
March: 1
April: 4
May: 5
June: 9
July: 8 through the 20th

Total: 27

This number is very inflated. These are just days with thunder, not actual thunderstorms. Although I was gone much of Nurn and July so who knows what happened then. I'd guess no more than 15 actual t-storms.

July made me miss Rain. July is the driest month in İzmit (Where I live). We had very little rain in July 2017 so far.

İstanbul is only 100 km away from İzmit and it flooded in İstanbul a few days ago but we had very, very little rain in İzmit. We didn't have much of rain in İzmit. It was very little rain.

As far as I know, in Some Part of İstanbul, it flooded. It didn't even go to Eastern Part of İstanbul ( I mean it didn't flood). How can it come to İzmit?
