At least its winters aren't as deadly as Inukjuak etc.

D- from me.
Winters are good.
"Summers" are terrible. Average temperature in July 8,8c and in August 10,7c , that is not summer, that is autumn.

D for diabolical. I'm not digging this at all.

Invercargill is almost at the same labtitude, and is vastly better.

4C warmer summer nights and Invercargill wouldn't be so bad. Never gotten why summer nights are so cold there; do you have any idea?

F. Way too cool in the summer and too rainy, way too cloudy and probably too snowy.

Cold ocean year round, hundreds of km from the nearest warm ocean currents, no warm landmass to filter heat from, and regular cold fronts bringing cold southerly air without any inhibitions.

Yeah the southern ocean beneath it is one cold miserable one. I guess its proximity to the highlands don't help either, so that even northerlies can be cold.

Still having a frost in January at a coastal location with a clear-cut oceanic climate at 46S is pretty remarkable. Having it at this Simushir place seems far less of a stretch.

What's remarkable with Simushir is that the cold Siberian air can find its way all the way out there in winter. It really is so isolated and ought to have at least daily highs above freezing. That's what really stands out for me.
