I've seen official BOM stations in southern Australia read 0% with dewpoints under -40C. Tends to happen during spring.
We've read RH levels below 5% with dewpoints around -20C if memory serves me correctly. And this was last spring. If our coastal cities are capable of this feat then I'm sure inland Australia has gotten such tremendously low dewpoints (-40C, as you point out).
How does it feel outside with 1 % humidity or lower? Especially if temps aren't ultra-hot?
Real feel much colder than the temp recorded?
I've experienced 0% RH at 5C - 7C, and while it did feel a bit colder, I would say it felt weird more than anything -like something wasn't quite right.
Water droplets were able to freeze at that temperature, so the cooling effect is certainly greater, than at higher humidity levels.
