Would you choose 2.5 months of hell-like humidity and no relief from heat at night?

Or would you choose 4 months of below freezing temperatures with lots of snow?

Montreal, for the cooler and drier summers.

Personally I don't think ANY Asian city will be comfortable...every major city there suffers from immense humidity for a very large chunk of the year...

Montreal for sure. I am surprised at how cold Seoul gets during winter though.

Montreal summers can be extremely hot and humid sometimes though, like much of eastern North America! On average though, they are very enjoyable!

The whole region (Northern China and Korea) gets quite cold in winter. (Seoul, Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian).

Northeastern Chinese cities (Harbin and Shenyang) get extremely cold. Harbin actually gets slightly colder than Winnipeg in the middle of the winter. Shenyang is very similar to Montreal but has lower lows and higher highs.

But compared to Canada, winter is shorter over there. In Seoul, warmth comes back in March (avg high 10 C°C). And even throughout December and February, we have mild days that go up to 5°C. It is a dry cold so snow is not frequent and usually it melts the next day.

Unfortunately, they barely receive any snow. Monsoon influenced climates in Asia have very dry winters.

This!

Summer monsoon season is a bummer.

Montreal climate is not bad, just a few colder than preferable days.

Let me just do a more detailed comparison.

Let us make 3 categories. IDEAL, AVERAGE, HORRIBLE

In Montreal, you have 5 months of IDEAL (May-Sep). First half of October can still be nice but I deducted it because you get days that can still be chilly in May or September. Also, there are days in the summer that are too humid to be enjoyed.

AVERAGE : mid-October-mid-November, April, humid summer days : 2.5 months

HORRIBLE : mid-November-March : 4.5 months
*ATROCIOUS : Montreal gets around 30-40 day period per year that the daily high doesn't go over -5 C / 23 F and on
most of these days daily low is going below -15 C / 5C as well

In Seoul, you have IDEAL mid-March-mid-June (3), September-mid-November(2.5) : 5.5 months

AVERAGE : 2nd half of Nov. 1st half of Mar. 1 month during Dec-Feb : 2 months

HORRIBLE : mid-June-August(2.5), (2) months during Dec-Feb period : 4.5 months

So I would say they are about on par. BUT, Seoul doesn't really get those atrocious-level horrible winter extremes.

It really boils down to whether you prefer cooler or warmer.
