I'm a physicist and realize I don't know nearly as much about the weather as I should. Can anyone out there recommend a good technical book to pick up the basics? Thanks!

I used "Meteorology Today" by C. Donald Ahrens in my "Weather and Climate" community college class. It explains the 'process' of the subject with subsequent chapters building upon previous chapters. The early chapters build the foundation, the latter chapters pull it all together and not necessarily related to each other. I found it the easiest text to understand for me and my students.

New editions are expensive, but from experience, I know that they change little from edition to edition. You can get an older editions from Amazon for very reasonable prices.
