That part of the Orange River valley is an important irrigated agricultural area in South Africa. Lots of grapes and other crops are grown there, so it's a lot different from the surrounding landscape.

It's a desert. At least it has some temperature variation. But it's way too dry and way too sunny. Barely misses the minimum for an F grade (20%, which is 19.5%)

I'd give it a C-, it's much too dry and a bit hot in summer and cool in winter, but a lot better than anywhere snowy or icy which are my reject climates. Lack of water can be corrected more easily than lack of warmth in my opinion.
