Hurricane Lane didn't actually make landfall. The Big Island had the most impact, mostly due to flooding, the other Islands had heavy rain & localised flooding but Honolulu didn't have it that bad.

Honolulu, it's not even close. There are a wide array of issues with living on the island but climate for me would not be remotely one of them.

The last place you would want to be with warm climate change is an island.

Sure, winter climate is better than SD but the other 9 months, SD has a better climate.

Honolulu has trade wind, San Diego doesn't.

Rainbow is commonly seen in Honolulu. Hardly in San Diego.

It will warm more slowly than mainland locations due to being surrounded by Pacific.

Both locations are far too dry for me but I choose Honolulu. There are cloudier, wetter areas in the immediate vicinity.

If you are from Midwest or Deep South, Honolulu weather is really comfortable and dry.
Summer Dew point
upper 60s (Honolulu) vs mid to upper 70s (Deep South)

If you are from So Cal and SF Bay Area, Honolulu might be too humid for you.
Dew point >60 in the Bay Area is pretty rare here.

Except, of course, if you don't like perpetual heat. Then you can tolerate San Diego, and Honolulu would be deeply unpleasant.

Not everyone likes the same thing, antinimby.
