Steve D puts out an awesome winter forecast in scientific atmospheric details on why & how.

The public version is the general version. He expects blocking to return.

"The primary theme for this winter will be the return of the major Nor’Easter weather patterns. The past several years have not featured the potential of this one due to a persistent upper-level ridge over the Southeastern United States and a lack of sustained high latitude blocking"

Still going to be in a Modoki state in ENSO this winter. Analogs are good for cold lover but not so much for snow lovers

Now this would be a great way to start off winter with a sudden stratospheric warming event. That would ensure a cold start to the winter season. Even if it's only a minor event

Canadian SIP shows near normal for the Midwest and Northeast this winter overall with a blowtorch December (just like last year) and polar vortex intrusions in January. So basically it's calling for a carbon copy of last winter. It might be correct since last winter featured a Modoki and so will this winter by most indications.

Same copy FL has had for 8 years, blazing above normal.
