-23.4C in Nikkaluokta last night. Sweden's lowest temperature of the autumn so far.

All main models showing a mild and wet winter for Western Europe But I don't know where they base it on. last year they predicted a cold winter while there was no particular reason for it, now every condition looks to be better and they say mildest and wettest winter ever

We have kind of ENSO neutral conditions, a prolonged negative NAO, a tripole appearing in the Atlantic, a west-to-east QBO, reasonable Russian and Scandinavian snow cover, and still these forecasts. Now I know winter is still several weeks off, but it makes me really sad.

^^^^^^^

Yeah, it appears that Western Europe will be graciously getting a “Non-Winter†while the Midwest shivers through more vicious arctic outbreaks than even last winter, why am I not surprised

Im loving this. SSTs are similar to both winter of 2013-14 (Chiberia) and 2014-15 which featured one of the coldest February's on record from the Midwest to the Northeast

If this pans out get ready to rock and roll... Hope the Northeast has a lot of heating oil and get a tune up km your cars and trucks. Maybe some snow tires.

But the devil's in the details. Warm Blob is a bit further west this year unlike 2014 so upper air pattern might not be exactly the same. Not to mention other teleconnections.

Ben thinks that it's possible for a backload winter which lingers into spring for those out east
