93 in Dallas on the way to 102 today. The cool down begins tomorrow, only 91 expected (11 degrees cooler).
84 in Houston on the way to 100 today.
90 in Austin on the way to 105 today.

The Desert Southwest heat is extremely impressive. Again, Palm Springs (116) will be hotter than Phoenix (114) and Vegas (114). Sacramento is already 88 degrees at 8:44 AM on the way to 109. It will be 109 today, tomorrow, then 111 on Monday. Wow!

It seems Seattle is getting in on the heat dome now as well. 96 is predicted in Seattle. Wow that is impressive! Portland is going to be 100! I bet the beaches along the OR/WA coast are going to see a lot of people. Frigid water but with those hot temps people may actually be swimming a bit...

SF is seeing morning drizzle today, it's the marine layer attempting to modify the climate but failing because it's still 76 at 8AM.

Be thankful with all that heat coming that you're getting some rain

That's the marine layer. Upper 50 to low 60 degree water and 100 degree air meeting, lots of evaporation going on. That stuff will burn off when the heat cranks up later in the day.

It's cool to experience and all, but even with the little bit of rain we're still a tinderbox getting struck by lightning. Combine that with the wind and it doesn't bode well for fires, there's already several that have started

Is there something that makes this situation different than other heatwaves? Air temps are usually much higher than the ocean during heatwaves here. Being from the bay area I'm pretty unfamiliar with thunderstorm formation

I don't miss August in Texas. I don't even see a 90 in the forecast. 88/89 the next few days that's it.

Wonderful day. High of 72, low of 59. Hoping it stays in the low 70’s from now till the end of September.
Some parts of New York won’t make it out of the 60’s today. That’s pretty chilly for august.

Drizzle all day today. We might fail to reach 70F for a max!

Absolutely great day. This is EXACTLY what every day of every summer should be like.

This is all I ask for! Just this break to breath and recharge!. Wonderful day even though its raining. We're like at least a month away from 60s and no rain during the day.

I'm trying to find out when it was in the 60s at 2pm. Man this feels good!

It's in the 40s just 4000' above our heads. Between that and the clouds it's helping keep the surface cool. Also the NE winds off the ocean.

I'm hoping we get these "tastes" of fall once a week moving forward now.

Wonderful view, a sharp contrast from the morning:
