Yikes! It's 10:30 am and it's already 90 F. At least we have a heat pump. many people in the PNW have no air-conditioning and it's going to be miserable today. When it cools off into the mid 90's, that's going to feel pretty good.

Good luck to us all!

Luckly the interior areas do get cooler at nightime, so the benefit of somewhere like Bend is alot better than a climate that is at lower elevations, atleast it isn't Death Valley or Lake Havasu City, where those temperatures are very regular. Bend, Oregon would have some comfy 60-70 degree nights atleast, so people can atleast sleep, but I do know that Portland naturally has a few months in the 80's, so they probably have AC already. Hope things don't get too bad up there, it's 83 where I am at.

It was supposed to cool off a little today, but at 2:25 pm it's 117 F. It may end up warmer then yesterday. To top it off, our heat pump stopped working last night. Right now, it's 89 F inside with fans running everywhere. It'll take about 2 weeks to get the heat pump fixed. But it's a dry heat!

Today, Monday, Portland hit 115 just before 4 PM. Salem crawled all the way up to 117 before westerly breezes brought the thermometer down to a relatively cool 99 at 4:30. McMinnville boiled all the way up to 113 before the west breezes cooled them off. Practically everywhere north of Woodburn and east of Hwy 99, though, are still dealing with temperatures at or over 110.
There's weather station outside of Canby that hit 120 at 3 PM. I don't know what the conditions around the station were (other than the obvious) or if this thermometer meets NWS standards for official record keeping but if this reading holds it will stand as the hottest temperature recorded anywhere in Oregon since Europeans hit the scene.
My house in Corvallis hit 100 before the cooling breeze brought the thermometer down to 90. Hyslop Field, about 7 miles northeast of my place didn't get the west wind shift until about 2:30 and hit 109 before cooling off. The Corvallis Airport, about the same distance southwest from my house as Hyslop was to the northeast never got past 93. It's 81 there now (5 PM). I mention this to underscore what a difference a few miles and the timely exposure to a wind shift can make.
There will be an end to this! Starting tomorrow, temperatures all over Oregon west of the Cascades will top out at levels as much as 20 degrees cooler than today. That's still upper 80's and low 90's but something we can handle a lot better than the <stuff> we've recently seen.
