Toronto Pearson Airport June 2021:

Average High 27.2C (Dep +3.0C)
Average Low 16.1C (Dep +3.1C)
Total Precip 80.0mm (Dep +8.5mm)

We started with a dry heat wave early June before transitioning to more pleasant and seasonal mid June weather. In late June it yet again became very hot and humid, with some heavy rain/storms that finally broke the drought that started in mid May.

From Corvallis, Oregon data taken from Hyslop field about 5 miles northeast of town:

Ave Max 82.5 (28.1); +9.2 (5.1)
Ave Min 50.9 (10.5); +2.2 (0.67)
Average temperature comes out to 66.7 (19.3) degrees, 5.8 (3.2) above long term averages.
Hottest day 110 (43.3) coolest night 34 (1.1)

Rainfall total 1.75 inches or 44.5 mm; 0.32 (8.1) above standard.

For the first three quarters of the month, this was an ordinary June with daytime highs slightly above average and night time lows slightly below. It was also a slightly wetter than average June for our part of the world.
Since we just ended the driest spring in nearly 70 years, this was a nice change.
It would have been nicer yet had we not had the Mother of All Heatwaves descend on the U.S Pacific Northwest and Canada's Pacific southwest. It was an epic disaster whose economic damage and death toll has yet to be calculated. From the 25th to the end of the month, record setting high (and low) temperatures pushed what would have been a plain vanilla month into a tie for the warmest in our 124 year history.

Corvallis and points south didn't get it as badly as the northern Willamette Valley, Washington's Olympic Peninsula and Puget sound. Or anywhere nearly as badly as British Columbia; but we were hit with a temperature reading two degrees higher than Corvallis has seen since it was settled. Further north toward Salem and Portland, temperatures higher than anything seen in at least 5000 years and (maybe) since the glaciers went away 14000 years ago were recorded on the 27 through 29. Maximum temperatures spiked to more than 40 (22) degrees above climatology!
Hyperbolic? I don't think it is possible to be too hyperbolic describing what we "soft" Pacific North Westerners went through the last week of the month. Much of inland Oregon, Washington and BC spiked temperatures higher than absolute maximums in places like Las Vegas and Tucson.

And Western Canada got it way worse than we did and were even less used to it than we. We cooled off, they haven't yet.

Month startet sunny and dry, then rainy and cool weather mid-month, then near normal. So a little above normal temps, but nothing like eastern Europe. For the country as a whole, temperatures where 2.3°C above the 91-2020 normal.

In the south, Drammen had avg high 23°C and 261 sunhrs (Oslo), while in the far north Karasjok had avg high 18.8°C and 279 sunhrs.

Hong Kong, Hong Kong Observatory:

Mean high: 31.2ºC (+1.0ºC above 1991-2020 normal)
Mean mean: 28.8ºC (+0.9ºC)
Mean low: 26.9ºC (+0.7ºC)
Mean dew point: 25.4ºC (+0.8ºC)

Mean relative humidity: 83% (+6%)
Absolute high: 34.0ºC
Absolute low: 24.0ºC

Precipitation: 628.0 mm (+38%; cumulative for 2021: 791.1 mm, down 28%)

June as a whole was hotter than usual. There were some periods of intermittent sun, punctuated by heavy downpours caused by troughs of low pressure over Southern China. Broadly speaking, the first third of June was marked by occasional showers, with heavy rain from the 9th to the 12th, and then mostly cloudy conditions until the last third of June, which alone accounted for over 400 mm of rain.

This June was rainier than normal after a drought for the first five months of this year. On June 1, rainfall exceeded 100 mm on Lantau Island and the south of Hong Kong Island, with more than 150 mm of rain being recorded on Lamma Island and Cheung Chau. Furthermore, on June 28, the HKO in Kowloon received 166.5 mm of rain, exceeding over 200 mm on Lantau, the outlying islands and western Hong Kong Island. At one point, the rainfall rate there was 70mm per hour.

One tropical depression affected Hong Kong this month, passing through the South China Sea.

Sadly, extreme weather is becoming more and more commonplace, as we recently saw in the Pacific Northwest. Although absolute temperatures may be hotter nearer the equator, extreme warming poses a greater threat to temperate regions where people are not as well-adjusted to the heat. RIP Lytton, BC and hopefully this prompts leaders around the world to take more climate action.

June 2021 Summary
For Mediterranean Sheffield

June was milder than average, and considerably drier than average. The first half was consistently mild, with lots of fair albeit boring weather. Very pleasant for enjoying the outdoors however. The second half was very dull and often chilly. The lack of sun in the second half means the sunshine was below average - yet again for a summer month. The lack of rain was a local phenomenon, as lots of rain fell in other parts of the country. This location missed a lot of the rain and also the convection with no thunder days reported all month. So it was a largely uneventful quite boring month.

Temperatures and rainfall were below average here in Fort Worth Texas in June 2021; no abnormal dryness or drought concerns yet though thanks to such a cool and wet month of May.
