My bet is if 40 is reached, it will be at LHR i.e. it'll be a phony number.

Northern Canada hovering around 80 and mid 80s. Not really too unusual but last year we had a stretch of high 90s even to 108. I do not remember there being temps like that in my 67 years in Northern Canada.
I happen to love very hot weather but in the 40s is a bit much for an extended period of time. Although a/c hasn't been a big thing here I do have a mini split installed in my apartment.

It would be a blast to live in UK but the climate, more cloudy and rainy than where I am now, I think it would get me down.

As for the Iberian Penninsula.. too hot.. I hope their grid is coping with all the a/c. I worry more about the vegetation and trees. Surely many will suffer and die from this.

Yeah it is another cycle of climate change coming again after 10s of 1000s of years in remission.

The Met Office are forecasting 40C/41C in areas further north than London. And not sure why you think temperatures recorded at Heathrow are "phony". The majority of weather stations are situated at airports, for obvious reasons, & the temperatures recorded at Heathrow are always similar to the other stations around London (Northolt, Kew Gardens, St. James's Park).

There's been a lot of talk through the years about Heathrow getting readings that are too high because it often pops up at the top of the temperature charts, prompting even the BBC to talk about it - https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44980493.

Well it is absolutely freezing here in Eastern Australia, so really seeing the opposites happening.

The UK is certainly not set up to cope with over 40. Bad enough here and we are fairly used to it.
When I was a kid there was no aircon in homes or cars so I would wet my hair and that would help me sleep.

If you read the article it pretty much dismisses the idea that there is anything unusual or suspicious about the LHR records as they are similar to other London sites like Kew Gardens. Yes there is a UHI effect at LHR but that's to be expected at any London site and Kew appears to be stronger at least in winter.

Wisley which is also mentioned as a particularly hot spot lies beyond the urban area of London to the SW.

I gotta say I don't think for a second 40°C is gonna happen in the UK these next two days. Already today the upper level cloud is thicker than forecast and that could happen Mon/Tuesday too. But hey if I'm wrong I'm wrong.
