Weather stations across Christchurch are showing temperatures have climbed over the 40 degree mark this afternoon as mainly clear skies and a gentle nor'wester create the hottest day in quite some time.

Barrington is now recording a temperature of 41C (106F) degrees, 40C (104F) in Cashmere, 38C (100F) downtown and 35C (95F)out at the airport".

While down here in Invercargill its only 26.4°C (79.5°F), (Heat Index 27.1°,C ), Humidity 56 % with the sunny weather about to come to a halt

The temperatures in Canterbury arn't expected to last, it was warm yesterday as well but just failed to hit the 40s
