First one came as a surprise past 24hrs.
2nd one we'll see.

In response to the Arctic front a Low Pressure will form..

Virginia, Maryland, Southern Delaware & NJ will see over 6 inches of snow. (I can't believe its missing me to the south!). Mountains of North Carolina too.

Northern NC should see 1-3"

The second one 3 days later... Per Euro model... The latest update keeps it on land so would mean rain for the coast.. Previous updates had it off the coast. Still time for many changes

Making a winter cyclone requires many ingredients to phase properly -- everything needs to come together

A couple of them is a A protrusion of the tropopause + strong jet stream.

The current setup... Jet stream dipping down to Texas and the front sagging south in the East. This is setting the stage for the storm track for tomorrows storm.

Snow should start to break out as far south as northern Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi this evening

Lets see if parts of the Southeast can have more snow than Southern New England. Not too common by this time of year

Season Snowfall Totals as of Jan 2nd
Allentown: T
Bridgeport: 0.2"
NYC: 0.2"
Islip: 0.3"
Boston: 0.4"
Providence: 2.6"
Worchester: 3.8"
Hartford: 4.2"

Those Watches should be upgraded to Warnings in Virginia and Maryland. Maybe

Down to 34F here which is 50F cooler than yesterday's high. Wind chill is 22F with some brisk wind!

Haven't seen any winter precip here yet, but I may still see a bit of sleet. Areas to my northwest have had some.

I'm about to make a Sam's Club run.

If this forecast holds (fingers crossed), I expect to be off of work tomorrow (I work in the Fort Meade, MD area for context). The snow is expected to fall at just the "right" time for closures. And even a couple of inches of snow here is enough to shut things down as folks here are not used to driving in (or clearing) a lot of snow (not that a "lot" is subjective). For context, we had snow days last year with only a couple of inches.

That said, is it STILL 60 degrees here at the moment. Temperatures are expected to quickly drop, though.

It's been in the 70s here all week, even the mountains been in the 60s. Still in the high 50s and 60s today. I will believe this when I see it!

Was Sams Club packed? It's crazy how people think right before a storm like they'll be trapped for weeks. lol

I hear ya but I'm sure you know yesterdays weather means nothing for tomorrows event.

That said... Not sure where you are but North Carolina missing this one not by much. Northern end will only see 1-2". Not a big one for NC.

Northern Virginia a different story

Someone in VA and Delaware will see 6"+. This isn't a widespread 6" plus event
