You may be required to get the license in the county you live in and both parties have to be present to get the license I believe. Check with your county and find out the requirements for a marriage license.
I think you get the license in the county where you're going to be married. Birth certificates are filed in the county where they occur, and I think marriage is the same.

We got our license in the county where we reside. The license was valid statewide. We got married in another county and the officiant signed the license and mailed it to the county where we live. In our county, both people have to be present to obtain the license. We can obtain a copy by mail.

That's the only disadvantage I can see. If they ever need records for ID purposes or if they get divorced, they'll have to do a lot more traveling for the recording and whatnot. As long as it's not a long drive I'd do it too.

In the county where we live and got our license, you can simply submit a form and $2.50 to get a copy of your marriage license mailed to you.
