Can someone clue me into the Old Northwood neighborhood?
I LOVE the houses there, but my cousin says its not a good neighborhood.
What's up with this neighborhood?

On that note, we're looking to move to South Florida, under Jupiter and above Miami.

In addition to good schools and safety, we're looking for walkability of neighborhoods -places that you can walk out your front door and walk within a mile or two to great restaurants, shops, libraries, parks, etc. Any recommendations?

Old Northwood itself is a great neighborhood. It's in the Northern part of West Palm Beach. It's detraction is that it is very close to a vary bad part of town. Too close for most.

For walkability, I would recommend El Cid, Flamingo Park, Grandview Heights, Monceaux, and Southland Park neighborhoods in West Palm Beach. I live in Flamingo Park and can walk to Cityplace (tons of restaurants, shopping, movie theater), the Kravis Center, the intracoastal. The beach is only 2 miles away, the intracoastal just blocks away.

Thanks TriMT7

We love mt. biking and realize that we'll have to swap that passion for road biking, so a 2 mile ride to the beach would be great!

Thanks!

Don't sell your mountain bikes. There are some pretty good trails at Jonathan Dickinson State Park north of Jupiter.

When you are serious about moving to this area, you can get crime stats from the police dept for the neighborhood in which you want to live. Wait until you have narrowed it down, though. The West Palm Beach PD and the Sheriff's Office have neighborhood sub stations in various locations, and Community Officers who would be happy to talk to you. It's all about doing your homework. Good luck!
