Winter Illnesses in FL (Boynton Beach: appointed, home, allergies)

I'm in PA but hoping to relo to Pompano/Boynton Beach area within about 2 yrs. I'm curious as to whether or not there are more fall/winter colds and sinus infections in PA than in FL. I felt prompted to ask about this because I have my THIRD seasonal illness now, the first being a short, gentle cold that was going around in early November, the second being some kind of gastrointestinal thing which seemed like the "24 hour virus" that's always been talked about here in PA. A week after that I came down with this cold that's had me home for 4 days and counting. I know just going south is not a great solution, as one of the worst colds of my life came on me when I spent a winter in Atlanta. I'm wondering if the pleasant winters in S. FL will make any difference. I'm wondering too why 3 illnesses so early in the season! Does anyone have any explanation for this??????

I am a big advocate of immunizations so everyone who can get them, you're probably doing yourself a big favor. I am 60 so also had pneumonia and shingles vaccine. I am very disappointed with primary care doctors, at least in PA because they do not mention to get the pneumonia and shingles (for former chickenpox patients) vaccines at age 60.

I never get sick living in FL. I used to get a sinus infection every other week almost living in Wisconsin.

Maybe there is hope for me to at least have less illnesses in FL. Now I'm looking forward to moving more than ever! Glad you no longer have the sinus infections. My mom has sinus headaches every winter here unless she runs a vaporizer of crockpot of water every night in her room. Happy New Year.

There are definitely winter illnesses in FL, please don't kid yourself.

Look at the national FLU map, where it highlights which states have wide-spread flu outbreaks. FL is in the midst of one.

Also, I live just south of Ft Lauderdale in the city of Hollywod, so it stays pretty warm here. However, I've come down with 2 colds this season. One right at Thanksgivibg....just ur typical sore-throat, runny/clogged nose, headache cold that lasted about 5 or 6 days. "It was going around"...... In years past I've always gotten colds and stomach bugs just like anyone else.

I mean if u think about it.....we get millions of tourists from up north each winter and they bring their colds with them and us Floridians catch them lol. just kidding, but seriously....the warmer weather does not mean less colds and winter illnesses.

U must chase summer if u want to avoid winter bugs. Go to Australia every October. Come back in May.

I used to have mild hay fever living up north but developed really bad allergies and sinus infections my first year in Florida and was sick way more often especially in the summer than I was in cold weather environments. Different plants, different pollen, different molds etc. took me time to adjust.

But a year or two later I'm adjusted and feel fine. I wouldn't make it a deciding factor on a move here. There are ways to deal with ranging from medication, to avoidance, to being more active and in better shape.
