We are looking to relocate to Boca Raton area, we are leaving our home unsold but on the market and hoping for a quick sale. But we have a family of 8 and are in need of a 4 bedroom house/apartment/condo for 3 months while our house sells (or doesn't). Preferably furnished, if not furnished we will probably have to rent furnishings as we would rather not move our stuff twice. We have an outdoor cat here, we may need to bring her not sure yet, but pet friendly would help.

We could squeeze into a 3 bedroom but it will be a squeeze. Our kids range in age from 16 to 20 mnths. One girl and 5 boys so someplace with places for them to play and get out will really help. We will need laundry in Unit as we do laundry often.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Becky

When will you be relocating? An issue is that in season which is Nov to May it can be hard to find a short term rental and if you do it is going to be a lot more costly then in the off season months. I would call a realtor if you are looking for a condo or home rental and explain what you are looking for. I am not sure someone would rent a 3 bedroom to 8 people as I am not sure the limits.

I'm pretty sure the state law dictates 2 people per bedroom max.

No such law in Florida.

We are in nearly the same boat, except we are a family of 4 rather than 8. I have been looking for short-term rentals in the Boca area and furnished corporate apartments are very pricey, up to 4k-5k a month for a 2 or 3 bedroom. I've also looked into unfurnished apartments and found them to be more in the $1700-2000 range in the same area (Central Boca). The minimum lease I've found is 7 months but you can break the lease for a two month penalty. That's steep but still cheaper overall than the furnished apartments. For example, $3000 a month more in rent for three months =$9,000, but 1700 x 2=$3400) I'm probably going to go with this option since I'd also like some breathing room in case it takes longer to find a home and you also have to consider most closings take 30-45 days depending.

For a family your size you might want to look into private homes/townhouses for rent. Keep in mind most private owners want larger deposits than some apartments at least that is what I have found in my search. GL!

Not sure Florida has any laws regarding number of people in a certain sized home. I do know that different towns will have their own policies. Such as, here in Haverhill, it is a code violation to have more than 1 family in a home and you cannot have more than 2 adults in a bedroom. We were in violation for a short time, but got it worked out. We had to move down to help MIL and ended up living in her small home for 3 years. MIL had her room, my mother and son shared a room (2 twin beds) and hubby, daughter and I were in the 3rd room. (queen bed and floor) When we went to convert our garage into a home, we found that code requirements for the Town stated for 4 bedrooms, we had to have a minimum of 1750 sq feet. Also, 1 family is continually written up and the Sheriff has been out. They have a 3 bedroom home, and 4 families with 19 people living in it as well as 3 dogs.

What websites are you using in your search? I also am concerned about finding a big enough apartment, I don't know if there are any that are willing to sleep 8.

I have looked on airbnb.com and found one rental in Hollywood, FL. That is a bit far south for my liking, I am just sure there have got to be some beach/vacation homes that need an occupant further north. And I have looked on vacationrentals.com, but haven't found any that sleep 8, I have also check Coldwell Banker's website but am only find sleeps 6 on any vacation rentals I have looked at there. They do have a nice website to navigate though except I wish that it would do a broader area search instead of limiting the search to a specific city.

$150k as a result of a limit on the number of occupants:
